Kichinjaji, Soroti City – A wave of relief swept through Kichinjaji Cell in Soroti City as a group of vulnerable residents received essential food and household supplies, thanks to a timely donation by the local charity, Friends at Heart.
The donation package included basic necessities such as sugar, bread, and soap, offering a crucial lifeline to households grappling with the rising cost of living and limited access to support services.

According to Francis Omoding, the Executive Director of Friends at Heart, the initiative aligns with the organization’s mission to uplift marginalized communities in the region.
“Our main goal is to support vulnerable people,” Omoding stated. “We have operated for two years without any external funding. We are calling on more partners and organizations to come in and support this cause.”
The donation was warmly received by community members and local leaders. Emmanuel Iikot Adwong, LC1 Chairperson of West Cell in Kichinjaji Ward, commended the organization for stepping in at a critical time.
“This support has come at the right moment. The beneficiaries truly need it,” Adwong said, echoing Omoding’s call for broader support from stakeholders.
One of the notable beneficiaries was Martin Edeku, an 86-year-old retired police officer who shared both gratitude and concern during the distribution event.
“I retired in 1993, but my pension was stopped in August 2024 for reasons I still don’t understand,” he revealed. “Life has been extremely hard since then.”
Despite the challenges voiced by some, the atmosphere during the donation event was overwhelmingly positive, with recipients expressing heartfelt appreciation to Friends at Heart for the kind gesture.
This initiative adds to the growing list of community-based efforts aimed at addressing poverty and social exclusion in Soroti City and beyond. Friends at Heart continues to call on individuals, partners, and organizations to join hands in supporting the most vulnerable members of society.
