SOROTI CITY EAST – In a significant step towards grassroots development and agricultural self-reliance, parliamentary aspirant Isaac Orego has injected UGX 3.6 million into the Soroti City East Division through a poultry donation targeting local savings groups.
The initiative saw the distribution of 460 improved chicks, each valued at UGX 8,000, to 13 local groups spanning across areas such as Aloet, Madera, Omirio, and other communities.
Speaking during the handover, Orego described the donation as a symbol of “livelihood transformation,” aimed at improving household incomes and promoting self-sustainability among community members.
The benefiting groups include ICAN MAM EPASI, Ogasia Farmers, Aminanaros Poultry Keeping Group, Amunokinos Women’s Group, Opiyai B Women’s Group, and several others actively engaged in community savings and agricultural ventures.
“This gift is a game-changer for our group,” said Samuel Agulet, Chairperson of Madera Ward Landlords Association. “We plan to rear the chicks and use the profits to pay school fees and expand our businesses.”
Orego reaffirmed his commitment to supporting community-based initiatives, pledging continued investment in projects that uplift local livelihoods.
“Empowering our people starts with practical solutions like this,” he said. “Together, we can build a self-reliant Soroti.”
The initiative has been widely praised as a timely intervention, especially at a time when many households are seeking alternative sources of income in the face of economic challenges.
