PALLISA — Learners in primary schools across Pallisa District have been urged to remain focused on their education and avoid unproductive activities that could negatively impact their future.
The call was made by Grace Outa Engorit , a former LC5 aspirant, during a visit to Kamuge Primary School in Kamuge Town Council, where he addressed pupils and teachers on the importance of discipline and academic commitment.
Speaking to the learners, Engorit emphasized that education is the most reliable pathway to success and self-reliance. He warned against distractions such as idleness, indiscipline, and involvement in activities that do not contribute to personal growth.
“Your books should be your best friends at this stage,” he told the pupils. “The choices you make today will determine your future.”
He also commended teachers for their role in shaping learners’ behavior and academic performance, urging them to continue mentoring pupils with dedication.
The message resonated with many learners, who pledged to remain committed to their studies despite challenges such as peer pressure and limited learning resources.
Adding his voice, Pallisa District Education Officer Ronald Omutujju called on parents and guardians to actively support their children’s education.
“Parents must provide basic scholastic materials like books, pens, and uniforms. Without these, it becomes difficult for learners to perform well,” Omutujju said.
He also stressed the importance of parental guidance, noting that unsupervised children are more likely to be exposed to negative influences that can affect their academic journey.
Education stakeholders in Pallisa have raised concerns over declining performance in some schools, attributing it to lack of focus among learners and insufficient parental involvement. The engagement at Kamuge Primary School is part of broader efforts to address these challenges.
Local leaders welcomed the initiative, highlighting issues such as absenteeism and early involvement in income-generating activities as key barriers to education. They called for joint efforts among parents, teachers, and community leaders to keep children in school.
The visit ended with renewed hope among learners, as leaders reaffirmed their commitment to promoting discipline, academic excellence, and a strong education culture in Pallisa District.
