Residents Warned Against Witchcraft Practices in Pallisa

By Alfred Opio

Residents of Akisim Sub-county in Pallisa District have been warned against engaging in witchcraft practices following growing concerns among community members and local leaders.

The warning was issued by the Resident District Commissioner of Pallisa District, Majid Dhikusooka, during a security meeting held in the area to address rising insecurity and tensions within the community.

The meeting was convened after the RDC’s office received numerous complaints from residents about increasing cases of theft and growing suspicions of witchcraft, particularly following the mysterious deaths of three members of the same family.

During the meeting, community members reportedly mentioned three individuals they suspect of practicing witchcraft. However, their identities were withheld for security reasons.

Majid Dhikusooka said investigations into the allegations will begin soon, warning that anyone found guilty of engaging in illegal activities will face the full force of the law.

He emphasized that witchcraft practices have serious consequences for communities and can fuel division and violence.

“Witchcraft has many negative consequences including hatred in the community, slow development, and even loss of life due to revenge attacks,” Dhikusooka said.

The RDC urged residents to abandon such practices and instead promote peace, unity, and lawful conduct within the community.

“Witchcraft is a sin before God and those who practice it cannot inherit the kingdom of God,” he added.

Dhikusooka also appealed to residents of Akisim Sub-county to remain calm and allow security agencies to conduct thorough investigations into the matter.

Meanwhile, the District Councilor representing Akisim Sub-county, Julius Okaki, welcomed the security meeting, saying such engagements help address misunderstandings and restore harmony within communities.

Okaki noted that dialogue between security leaders and local residents plays an important role in resolving conflicts and sensitizing communities on lawful conduct.

He further encouraged the Office of the RDC to organize similar meetings in other parts of Pallisa District to strengthen peace, security, and cooperation between authorities and residents.
