In a major boost to household incomes across Soroti City, the Busoga Nseete Saving Group has shared out UGX 17 million to its members, marking the successful completion of its one-year saving cycle.
The payout underscores the group’s dedication to financial discipline, even as community saving schemes continue to navigate Uganda’s challenging economic climate.
A Growing Community Built on Unity
Founded in 2023, Busoga Nseete brings together Basoga living within and outside Soroti City. However, its membership has grown far beyond tribal boundaries. According to Chairperson Gonahasa Henry, the group has become “a symbol of unity,” attracting Iteso, Bagisu, Baganda, and many others who admire its openness and strong culture of accountability.
Despite this growth, the group registered a drop in savings—from UGX 27 million in 2024 to UGX 17 million in 2025. Gonahasa noted that the decline reflects widespread economic hardship, which has made it difficult for members to maintain consistent savings.
Introducing a Welfare Fund to Support Members
To reinforce solidarity, the group recently introduced a UGX 3,000 development fee aimed at supporting bereaved members. Through this welfare initiative, Busoga Nseete contributes UGX 900,000 toward burial arrangements whenever a member loses a relative. Members say this support mechanism has greatly eased the financial pressure during emotionally and economically demanding times.
Transforming Lives Through a Saving Culture
For members such as Isma Mukama and Betty Kalembe, the group’s saving culture has brought measurable improvements to their financial stability, helping them tackle daily needs and plan better for the future.
Political Leaders Praise the Initiative
FDC aspirant for Soroti City East MP, Moses Attan, commended the group for its resilience and commitment to economic empowerment. He pledged to champion policies that strengthen SACCOs and community saving groups if elected.
Attan encouraged Busoga Nseete to begin exploring long-term investments beyond annual share-outs—ventures that can generate sustainable income and create economic independence for members.
A Beacon of Collective Progress
As the year draws to a close, Busoga Nseete Saving Group stands as a powerful example of what collective effort and disciplined saving can achieve. Even through economic pressures, the group continues to provide financial security, social support, and a strong sense of belonging to its diverse membership.
