Father Hilders Primary School Raises Alarm Over Rising Security Threats, Calls for Night Patrols

SOROTI — Authorities at Father Hilders Primary School have raised concern over growing security threats at the institution, calling for urgent intervention through regular security patrols.

The head teacher, Simon Oumo, said the government-aided school has recently experienced a series of incidents that have put its development and safety at risk.

According to Oumo, unknown individuals vandalized part of the school’s perimeter fence on Sunday, April 19, 2026, removing an iron angle bar from the wall.

He further revealed that about a month earlier, suspected criminals broke into the school premises and stole metallic shutters from the garage. The stolen materials were intended to replace wooden windows in teachers’ quarters.

“These repeated incidents are affecting our progress as a school,” Oumo said. “We are trying to improve our infrastructure, but criminals are setting us back.”

The head teacher also pointed to a nearby rock behind the school as a potential hideout for suspicious individuals. He claimed that some people frequent the area during the day under the guise of practicing kung fu, but are believed to be surveying the school premises.

Oumo attributed the security challenges to gaps in the school’s perimeter fence, noting that incomplete sections allow unauthorized access, especially during weekends and holidays when the school is closed.

“We do not have enough resources to fully complete the fence, and this makes it easy for intruders to enter,” he explained.

He has now appealed to security authorities to introduce night patrols around the school as an immediate measure to deter criminal activity.

“We are requesting support in the form of security patrols as we also look for funds to hire guards,” Oumo added.

School administrators say improved security is critical not only for protecting property but also for ensuring a safe learning environment for pupils and staff.

The appeal comes amid growing concerns about security in schools, with leaders urging authorities and communities to work together to safeguard education institutions.
