Authorities in Katakwi Town Council have donated 20 iron sheets to Katakwi Township Primary School in a move aimed at improving infrastructure and enhancing learning conditions for pupils.

The donation is part of the council’s broader effort to strengthen service delivery in the education sector, particularly in government-aided schools facing infrastructure challenges.

Speaking during the handover, LC3 Chairperson Zadok Akutu said the contribution aligns with the council’s budget priorities and commitment to supporting key sectors.

“This donation is in line with our budget allocation to improve service delivery. As a council, we resolved to purchase these iron sheets for the school.”

Akutu revealed that the procurement of the iron sheets cost approximately one million shillings, reflecting the council’s commitment to addressing pressing needs within local schools.

Katakwi Town Council Speaker Moses Aupal also emphasized the importance of the donation, noting that it stems from the council’s mandate to allocate resources where they are most needed.

“Approving and allocating resources for such needs is part of our responsibility. This support is meant to boost the education sector in our area.”

Despite the intervention, stakeholders highlighted ongoing challenges affecting the school. Richard Martin Ediedu, a member of the Parents Teachers Association (PTA), noted that the institution still faces significant infrastructure gaps that require further government support.

“The school is facing many challenges that need urgent attention if we are to improve performance.”

The headteacher, Samuel Ogwere, painted a clearer picture of the situation, revealing that the school has an enrollment of 2,006 pupils but lacks adequate classroom space.

“Due to limited classrooms, we have been forced to conduct some lessons under trees.”

He expressed hope that the iron sheets will help in constructing additional structures to ease congestion and provide a more conducive learning environment.

Education stakeholders in the area have called for increased investment in school infrastructure to match the rising number of learners. They argue that improving physical facilities is essential for enhancing academic performance and ensuring quality education.

The donation by Katakwi Town Council is seen as a step in the right direction, with expectations that more interventions will follow to address the school’s pressing needs.
