A senior police officer attached to the Criminal Investigations Department in Kole District has been arrested on allegations of attempted rape involving a 19-year-old student.
The suspect, Detective Assistant Superintendent of Police Dickens Leivs Ebong, is currently detained at Kole Central Police Station as investigations continue into the incident, which allegedly occurred on April 21, 2026.
According to preliminary reports, the victim, a student at Akalo Comprehensive Secondary School, had returned home from school due to illness. The officer allegedly lured her to his residence at Kole Police Barracks, where he reportedly attempted to forcefully engage in sexual intercourse with her.
The victim’s father, William Olila, a resident of Baya Cell in Kole Town Council, said he grew suspicious after seeing his daughter riding on a boda boda motorcycle toward the police barracks. He followed her and later sought help from local leaders after she entered the suspect’s residence.
Authorities, including Kole District Assistant Resident District Commissioner Samuel Odongo, conducted a search of the officer’s house, where the student was allegedly found hiding under a bed.
Witnesses said the suspect resisted during the operation, prompting officers to place him under arrest.
North Kyoga Regional Police spokesperson Jimmy Patrick Okema confirmed the arrest and said investigations are ongoing.
Okema emphasized that the law applies equally to all individuals regardless of rank, adding that security personnel are expected to uphold the law, not violate it.
