LC1 Chairperson Left in Shock After Night Theft of His Motorcycle in Pallisa

By Alfred Opio

Residents of Rarak 2 Village in Kadesok Parish, Opwateta Sub County, Pallisa District  were left in disbelief after unknown thieves broke into a store belonging to the LC1 chairperson and made off with a motorcycle, leaving behind several other valuable items.

The LC1 chairperson of the area, Amos Arikod , is said to have discovered the theft in the early hours of the morning, an incident that has since sent shockwaves across the village. According to Arikod, the stolen motorcycle, registration number UES 739X, had been kept in a separate house from the one he resides in.

“I am still in shock. The house where the motorcycle was kept had so many valuable items including 10 bags of cement, a wheelbarrow, a bicycle, an ox-plough, iron sheets and furniture. But surprisingly, the thieves only took the motorcycle and left everything else untouched.”

The chairperson explained that the targeted nature of the theft has raised suspicion among residents, with many questioning whether the perpetrators had prior knowledge about the motorcycle. The stolen motorcycle is estimated to be worth approximately four million Uganda shillings, making it the most valuable single item in the store.

Preliminary accounts indicate that the thieves broke into the structure under the cover of darkness. The exact time of the incident remains unknown, as the store is not occupied at night. Arikod noted that he had last checked on the property the previous evening and found everything intact.

“It is painful because this motorcycle has been helping me in my daily work and movements within the sub county. Losing it is a big setback not only to me but also to the people I serve.”

Residents who gathered at the scene expressed concern over increasing cases of theft in the area, particularly targeting motorcycles, commonly known as boda bodas. Some locals suspect that the perpetrators could be part of an organized group that targets motorcycles for resale or dismantling into spare parts.

One resident, who preferred anonymity, said:

“This was not a random act. Whoever did this knew exactly what they wanted. They ignored all the other items and went straight for the motorcycle.”

Another villager called on security agencies to intensify night patrols in the area to curb the rising incidents of theft.

“We need more vigilance as a community. If leaders themselves are not safe, then what about ordinary residents?”

Local leaders have since urged residents to remain calm but vigilant, advising them to strengthen security around their homes and property. Arikod also appealed to the public to report any suspicious individuals or information that could lead to the recovery of the stolen motorcycle.

“I call upon anyone who may come across a motorcycle with registration number UES 739X or any suspicious dealings involving motorcycles to report to the authorities immediately.”

The matter has been reported to police, and investigations are underway to identify and apprehend the culprits. Security agencies are expected to coordinate with neighboring districts and monitor possible routes used to transport the stolen motorcycle.

The incident adds to a growing number of theft cases in Pallisa District, raising concerns about security in rural communities. Residents are now calling for stronger collaboration between the public and security agencies to prevent further incidents.

As investigations continue, Amos Arikod remains hopeful that his motorcycle will be recovered, although he admits the experience has left him shaken and more cautious about the safety of his property.
