Alumni of Mukongoro High School in Kumi District have donated 31 units of blood in a life-saving initiative aimed at supporting hospitals across the Teso sub-region.

The donation drive, held at the school premises, brought together former students who convened not only for a reunion but also to give back to the community and chart a way forward for the development of their former institution.

Speaking during the event, Soroti Blood Bank staff member Hilda Atoori commended the alumni for their generosity and commitment to saving lives.

“I applaud the old boys and old girls of Mukongoro High School for donating 31 units of blood aimed at saving lives in various hospitals in the region.”

Atoori also encouraged communities and event organizers across Teso to collaborate with blood banks to boost collection efforts and save more lives.

Beyond the donation exercise, the alumni used the gathering to discuss key strategies aimed at improving academic performance and infrastructure at Mukongoro High School, reaffirming their long-term commitment to the institution’s growth.

Deputy Headteacher Mr. Orena Gideon praised the Old Students Association for its continued involvement in the school’s development.

He further called on more former students to join hands in uplifting the school and enhancing its performance.

The event also featured a friendly football match between the old students and current teachers, adding a vibrant and unifying element that strengthened bonds within the school community.

Alumni members explained that their initiative was driven by a dual purpose—saving lives through blood donation and contributing to the transformation of their former school.

The 31 units of blood collected are expected to support patients in need across the region, offering hope to many while reinforcing a strong culture of giving and community service among Mukongoro High School alumni.

The initiative stands as a testament to the power of collective action, demonstrating how alumni engagement can make a meaningful impact both in education and public health.
