Shock as Baby Born with Rare Deformities at Pallisa General Hospital Dies

By Alfred Opio

Grief has engulfed the family of a woman who recently delivered a baby with rare deformities at Pallisa General Hospital after the infant was confirmed dead.

On March 9, 2026, Kannifer Nakoma, a resident of Majawo Village in Kibuku District, delivered a baby boy with severe deformities, including an open head, an unusually large mouth, and eyes positioned abnormally high on the head.

The unusual condition shocked patients and attendants at the hospital’s maternity ward, with some reportedly running out of the ward in fear and disbelief after seeing the baby. The incident also attracted curious onlookers from other sections of the hospital who rushed to the maternity wing to witness what had happened.

According to information obtained at the facility, Nakoma developed labour pains and was rushed to Pallisa General Hospital for medical attention. Doctors later decided to perform an operation after she failed to deliver normally due to complications linked to the baby’s condition.

Speaking to our reporter with tears in her eyes, Nakoma expressed deep sorrow over the loss of her child.

“I wished my baby would remain alive despite his condition. It was my first baby and it is very painful to lose him,” she said.

Nakoma also prayed for divine intervention, asking God to bless her with another child in good health.

“I pray that God blesses me with another baby who is healthy. If there are any evil spirits following me, I rebuke them in the name of Jesus,” she added.

The death of the infant has left the mother and her family in deep sorrow, with many community members expressing sympathy and support.

Health authorities at Pallisa General Hospital had not yet issued an official statement about the incident by press time. However, preliminary information from medical personnel indicates that the deformities could have been linked to genetic factors.

Medical experts say such rare conditions can occur due to abnormalities in fetal development during pregnancy, although further medical assessment would be required to determine the exact cause.

The incident has continued to spark discussion among residents and patients at the hospital, with many expressing sympathy for the grieving mother and her family.
