Soroti City East Division Approves Shs. 2.8 Billion Budget for FY 2026/2027

Soroti City East Division Council has approved a Shs. 2.8 billion budget for the 2026/2027 financial year, with a strong focus on improving service delivery across key sectors.

The budget was presented on Wednesday by Adiebo Emmanuel, Chairperson of Finance, during a council sitting held at the division City Hall in Akisim Ward.

Budget Passed with Amendments

Presiding over the session, the Speaker of Soroti City East Division, Ramathan Bogere, confirmed that the budget was successfully passed, albeit with amendments aimed at strengthening service delivery.

According to Bogere, the revised allocations are expected to better address the division’s most pressing needs while ensuring accountability in implementation.

Priority Sectors Take Largest Share

The approved budget places significant emphasis on social services, with the health and education sectors receiving the largest share of funding.

Other sectors allocated funds include administration and community-based services, reflecting a balanced approach to governance and grassroots development.

Call to Settle Councilors’ Dues

During the session, the Deputy Resident City Commissioner of Soroti City East Division, Clare Eyipu, urged the council to prioritize clearing outstanding payments owed to councilors.

“Councilors have rendered their services, and their payments should be settled regardless of the outcomes of related cases,” she emphasized.

Her remarks highlighted ongoing concerns about delayed facilitation for elected leaders.

Youth Perspective on Development Priorities

Adding to the discussion, Soroti City Youth Councilor-elect, Shaban Abass, noted that the budget reflects critical development priorities for the division.

He pointed out that education, road maintenance, and the upgrading of health centers are central to the approved plan.

Looking Ahead

The newly approved budget is expected to guide development activities in Soroti City East Division for the 2026/2027 financial year, with leaders expressing optimism that the allocations will translate into tangible improvements in public services.

With a clear focus on health, education, and infrastructure, the council aims to enhance the quality of life for residents while strengthening local governance systems.
