Soroti City Marks President Museveni’s Swearing-In for New Term

By Wilson Oganan

SOROTI CITY — Residents and National Resistance Movement (NRM) supporters in Soroti City joined the rest of the country in marking the swearing-in of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for a new term in office.

The inauguration ceremony, held at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds in Kampala, officially marked the beginning of President Museveni’s 2026–2031 term following his victory in the recently concluded general elections.

While supporters in several parts of the country organized jubilant celebrations and processions, the atmosphere in Soroti City remained generally calm, with many residents continuing with their normal daily activities despite the significance of the occasion.

Soroti City, which has experienced active political competition during the election period, was reported peaceful as security remained vigilant throughout the celebrations.

Speaking during the occasion, the NRM Administrator for Soroti City, Richard Esegu, commended President Museveni and the NRM government for maintaining peace and stability in the Teso sub-region.

Esegu said the inauguration marks a continuation of government programs aimed at improving livelihoods, infrastructure, and service delivery across the country.

“We congratulate President Museveni upon his swearing-in for another term. As leaders in Soroti City, we are ready to continue supporting government programs aimed at transforming the lives of our people,” Esegu said.

He noted that the NRM government has played a significant role in restoring peace and supporting development in Teso, adding that local leaders remain committed to working closely with the central government for continued progress.

Earlier in the week, some residents and NRM supporters in Soroti City had been preparing for the celebrations with expectations that the day would proceed peacefully.

Several party leaders described the election victory as a sign of public confidence in the NRM’s leadership and service delivery record.

David Okiror, the councilor representing Kichinjaji Ward in Soroti City East Division, emphasized that the strength of the NRM lies in its grassroots connection with ordinary citizens.

“The NRM remains strong because it has deep roots among the people at the grassroots. The victory reflects the confidence that Ugandans continue to have in the leadership of President Museveni,” Okiror said.

He added that local leaders would continue mobilizing communities to support government development programs and initiatives aimed at fighting poverty and improving household incomes.

Despite the political excitement surrounding the swearing-in ceremony, business activities in most parts of Soroti City continued normally, with traders, transport operators, and residents carrying on with their daily routines.

Security personnel also remained deployed in strategic areas to maintain order and ensure peaceful celebrations.

The swearing-in ceremony at Kololo attracted dignitaries, regional leaders, diplomats, and supporters from across Uganda, officially ushering in a new five-year term for President Museveni under the NRM government.
