Thousands of jubilant residents from across Kibale County gathered in Opusai Village over the weekend to celebrate the victory of Member of Parliament-elect Hon. Constantine Okwi in a colorful homecoming ceremony marked by songs, dances, and messages of hope.
The event, held at Opusai Cell in Otamirio Ward, attracted local leaders, savings group representatives, youth, elders, and supporters who turned up in large numbers to congratulate the newly elected legislator and reaffirm their confidence in his leadership.
Supporters described Okwi’s victory as a sign of renewed trust in development-focused leadership, expressing optimism that his tenure will usher in improved service delivery and economic empowerment across the county.
Addressing the cheering crowd, Okwi thanked residents for the overwhelming support and trust they placed in him during the election.
“I am deeply grateful to the people of Kibale County for believing in me. This victory is not mine alone but belongs to all of you. Together, we shall work to transform our communities and fight household poverty,” he said.
The MP-elect pledged to prioritize key sectors including education, women empowerment, youth employment, and access to government programs such as savings and credit cooperatives. He emphasized strengthening and formally registering community savings groups to enable members to benefit from government initiatives and financial opportunities.
Okwi noted that empowering women and youth through savings schemes and small businesses would play a critical role in reducing poverty levels at the household level.
“Our focus will be on practical development. When families have stable incomes, children go to school, health improves, and the entire community grows,” he added.
Several community leaders commended Okwi for maintaining close ties with residents even before assuming office. They described him as accessible and committed to grassroots development.
Women leaders from different savings groups said his support had already inspired many families to embrace a culture of saving and self-reliance.
“This is a leader who listens to the people and works with us,” said one of the group chairpersons. “We believe our county will move forward under his leadership.”
The celebration also doubled as a thanksgiving event, with cultural performances and prayers offered for unity and prosperity in the county.
Residents expressed hope that the new leadership will address pressing challenges such as unemployment, poor infrastructure, and limited access to essential services.
The large turnout at Opusai Village highlighted the strong community backing for the MP-elect and signaled high expectations for transformative leadership in Kibale County.
