KUMI — Police in South Kyoga Region have arrested three suspects in connection with a housebreaking and theft incident at an Airtel service office in Kumi Municipality.
According to Regional Police Spokesperson ASP Stephen Mukombe, the break-in occurred on the night of April 23, 2026, at an unspecified time.
The incident was reported by Akello Sarah, 33, a resident of Bazar Ward, who alerted authorities after discovering the theft. Police officers from the District Criminal Investigations Department (CID), supported by a canine unit, responded to the scene and commenced investigations.
Preliminary findings indicate that the suspects gained access to the Airtel service center through a window before breaking into a safe. They reportedly stole approximately Shs 40,750,000 in cash.
The suspects also broke into a teller’s desk and took an HP laptop belonging to the office.
Police later conducted an operation led by the Officer in Charge of CID, resulting in the arrest of three male suspects identified as John Emorut, Dennis Robert Ocen, and Robert Opolot.
ASP Mukombe confirmed the arrests and said investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
He assured the public that more details will be provided as inquiries progress and urged anyone with additional information to cooperate with police.
