Two School Pupils Killed in Hit-and-Run Accident in Pallisa

By Alfred Opio

Police in Pallisa District have launched investigations into a fatal hit-and-run accident that claimed the lives of two primary school pupils in Kibale County.

According to a police report registered under references TAR 14/2026 and TSD 05/02/2026, the accident occurred on February 25, 2026, at about 1:30pm in Okutai Village, Kadesok Parish, when an unidentified motor vehicle traveling from Kumi toward Pallisa Town knocked down two female juveniles who were walking along the roadside near the Arab Contractors’ office.

Police said the children were walking in a group in the same direction as the vehicle when the driver reportedly rammed into them. Other pupils who were with the victims survived the crash unharmed.

The deceased have been identified as Ann Achom, 6, and Betty Amoding, 8, both Primary One pupils at Kadesok Primary School and residents of Okaracha Parish in Opwateta Sub-county.

Witnesses said the driver fled the scene immediately after the accident and has not yet been identified.

A team of traffic officers led by IP Immaculate Chekwoti from Pallisa Police Station visited and documented the scene. A sketch plan was drawn and photographs taken to support investigations.

The bodies of the deceased were transported to Pallisa General Hospital mortuary using a police vehicle pending postmortem examinations.

Uganda Police Force has since launched a manhunt for the unidentified driver and vehicle involved in the crash.

Bukedi North Regional Police spokesperson ASP Wilfred Kyempasa confirmed the incident and urged motorists to exercise caution, especially near schools and pedestrian areas.

“We appeal to all road users to drive responsibly and protect vulnerable pedestrians, particularly children. Anyone with information that could help identify the driver should report to the nearest police station,” Kyempasa said.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
