Soroti Municipal SS made a triumphant comeback after a three-year hiatus, clinching the championship title in the Soroti inter-school competition on March 28. They defeated Soroti SS in a thrilling penalty shootout, securing a 5-4 victory .
The team’s journey to the top was impressive, with a remarkable run in Group C, where they emerged undefeated, aside from a draw with Soroti SS. They won against Crane High School, Agora SS, Bethany Comprehensive SS, and Holy Angels .
In the quarterfinals, Soroti Municipal SS defeated Halcyon High School 1-0, advancing to the finals, where they faced Soroti SS once again. The final match ended in a goalless draw, leading to the decisive penalty shootout .
The team’s captain, Isaac Oluka, attributed their success to teamwork, discipline, and unity. The school’s headteacher, Mboizi Rogers, praised the team’s dedication and hard work, while the sports teacher, David Okurut, emphasized the importance of maintaining their team spirit and focus as they prepare for the regional games in Kumi district he also promised to deliver the school upto Nationals.
According to him they have participated in the Nationals before and he trusts his team will be perfect to represent the region.
Soroti Municipal SS has a rich history of excellence in sports, participating in competitions at the district, national, and international levels. The school’s focus extends beyond football, with a strong emphasis on other sports like volleyball, netball, and basketball .
