Ugandan Tech Innovator Launches WANO—A Digital Platform to Amplify African Voices and Culture

United States / Uganda – May 31, 2025

A Ugandan tech innovator based in the United States is making waves across the digital space with a powerful new platform that places African storytelling and culture at the forefront.

Elimer Bari, the CEO of WANO Africa, has officially unveiled WANO—a groundbreaking content-sharing app designed to empower Africans to tell their stories, connect across borders, and earn from their creativity. With the tagline “Africa to the World,” the app is already generating buzz among digital content creators and cultural leaders across the continent.

The WANO platform supports audio, video, and photo content in a wide range of African languages, allowing users to share everything from traditional folktales and music to entrepreneurial ideas and community highlights. More importantly, it offers a monetization model, giving content creators an opportunity to earn while promoting their culture and identity.

“WANO is more than just an app—it’s a digital movement to unite Africans and amplify our culture through storytelling,” said Elimer Bari. He emphasized that the platform is built with robust security features to ensure privacy and content protection within its trusted community network.

Embraced by Cultural and Tourism Leaders

The initiative has already received strong endorsements from leaders in Uganda. Joseph Ojaatum, Minister of Tourism and Documentation with the Iteso Cultural Union, applauded WANO’s entry into Uganda, especially in the Teso sub-region. He noted that such platforms could serve as powerful tools for promoting local tourism and preserving cultural heritage, potentially driving new income streams for rural communities.

Ahead of the app’s official launch on June 7, 2025, selected content creators will undergo training to help them fully leverage the platform’s features. According to Julius Ojula, popularly known as Jocare and the national coordinator for WANO Africa, the project is focused on quality, cultural relevance, and sustainable impact.

Backed by the Digital Creators Community

Excitement is spreading quickly within Uganda’s digital space. Nathan Eyagu, Secretary of Publicity for the Teso Bloggers Association, and Samuel Icharat, the association’s President, have both expressed full support for the initiative, pledging to collaborate with WANO to further its mission.

“We see WANO as a revolutionary platform that will not only tell the African story but also provide economic opportunities for our creatives,” said Icharat.

As the countdown to launch continues, WANO is shaping up to be a game-changer in African digital media—a platform where local stories meet global audiences and where every voice matters.
