Authorities in Pallisa District are investigating a disturbing case in which an unidentified mentally disturbed man was allegedly scalded with hot water by unknown individuals in Gogonyo Sub-county.
The victim, whose identity and place of origin remain unknown, is currently under the care of the office of the Gombolola Internal Security Officer (GISO) after sustaining severe burn injuries.
According to local leaders, the incident reportedly occurred in the Aukot area after the man allegedly entered a resident’s home. It is suspected that an unidentified person boiled water and poured it over his body, leaving him with serious burns.
The following day, the victim walked to Apala Trading Centre, where residents noticed his alarming condition, including peeled skin on his chest and back. Concerned members of the community alerted local authorities.
Harriet Amoding, the Gogonyo Sub-county GISO, said she personally visited the scene and confirmed the injuries.
“He has spent less than a month in this area and we do not know where he comes from,” Amoding said. “He does not speak, but he appears to understand Lugwere because he responds when addressed in the language.”
She strongly condemned the act, describing it as inhumane and unacceptable.
“Being mentally disturbed is not a choice or a crime. Such individuals deserve care and protection, not cruelty,” she emphasized.
Amoding revealed that investigations have been launched to identify those responsible and warned that the perpetrators will face legal action once apprehended.
Plans are underway to transfer the victim to Pallisa General Hospital for medical treatment.
The GISO has appealed to the public for assistance in tracing the man’s relatives and urged anyone with information to come forward or contact her office to support his care.
Local leaders have also called on residents to treat vulnerable persons with compassion and report suspicious incidents to authorities rather than resorting to violence.
