Soroti Leaders Urged to Ensure Equitable Service Delivery to Fight Poverty

By Philip Opio

SOROTI — Leaders in Soroti District have been urged to prioritize equitable and inclusive service delivery in the implementation of government programs as a strategy to combat poverty at the household level.

The call was made by David Agwanyi, who emphasized the need for fair distribution of initiatives such as the Parish Development Model (PDM) and the Generating Growth Opportunities and Productivity for Women Enterprises (GROW) program.

Agwanyi noted that unequal access to government programs often fuels dissatisfaction and malpractice within communities, undermining efforts to improve livelihoods.

“It is the responsibility of leaders to ensure that government programs benefit all people fairly. This is key in reducing poverty and promoting development,” he said.

Recently re-elected to serve another five-year term, Agwanyi pledged to continue mobilizing communities to embrace government initiatives and focus on projects that directly impact household incomes.

He also encouraged residents to work together and actively participate in development programs to maximize their benefits.

Adding his voice, Robert Opio called for unity among leaders, stressing that cooperation is essential for effective governance and service delivery.

“Leadership must be guided by unity and a shared vision if we are to achieve meaningful development,” he said.

Meanwhile, Soroti District Chairperson-elect Bob Owiny assured residents that his administration will focus on fair resource allocation across all sub-counties to ensure balanced development.

“My leadership will ensure that resources are distributed equally so that every community can access services and benefit from government programs,” Owiny stated.

Stakeholders believe that improved coordination among leaders, combined with active community participation, will enhance the effectiveness of government initiatives and accelerate socio-economic transformation in the district.

The renewed focus on equitable service delivery comes at a time when districts across Uganda are intensifying efforts to use government programs as tools for poverty reduction and sustainable development.
