Police in Pallisa District have launched investigations into a fatal hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of a 35-year-old man on the night of April 6, 2026.
According to police report TAR 19/2026, the incident occurred at around 8:00 p.m. at Kamuge Olinga Trading Centre along the busy Pallisa–Kumi road.
The deceased has been identified as John Olupot, a peasant and resident of Kaguya Village in Kamuge Sub-county.
Preliminary findings indicate that Olupot was crossing the road from left to right when he was knocked by an unidentified motor vehicle. The driver reportedly dragged the victim for a short distance before pushing the body off the road and fleeing the scene without stopping.
Police say both the vehicle and the driver remain unknown, and efforts are ongoing to trace and apprehend the suspect.
A team of officers led by the Officer in Charge of Traffic, IP Chekwoti Immaculate, visited and documented the scene. Personnel from traffic police, general duties, and crime intelligence units were involved in the initial response and investigation.
The body of the deceased was taken to Pallisa General Hospital mortuary, where it is pending a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Bukedi North regional police spokesperson Wilfred Kyempasa confirmed the incident and appealed to the public for assistance.
❝ “We urge anyone who may have witnessed the accident or has information that could help identify the driver to come forward and assist police investigations.” ❞
